Lake Somerville State Park

We went camping to Somerville State Park with three other families in our ward. There were seven kids there and Maddie was the oldest.

Mark never did get to barrel roll. He would have gotten his head stuck in the mud.

Maddie with Andrew and his dad, Reed.

Sydnie loved sticking her head in the water.

Maddie jumping off rocks.

Maddie was quite excited to fing this leaf bug.

Hurrican Ike

This is when the storm was really subsiding. The scariest part of the storm was while it was dark. We were extremely blessed during this storm. We just lost a few shingles. That was the case for our whole neighborhood, as well as a few small trees down. Our power was only out for 12 hours. Some people may not have power for a couple weeks. There were 4.5 million people without power. We are lucky there are no big trees right here to knck over our power lines. In all the old neighborhoods around our house it is a totally different story. There are big trees down all over the roads and on some houses. One family in our ward lost part of their roof and can't stay in their house. We are not having church today. We will be having some families from the ward over who don't have power yet. It is miserably hot with near 100% humidity in the houses without AC. We are actually being blessed with a cold front coming in tonight if we can get through today. The other problem for today is we had a huge thunderstorm roll through this morning and drop an addtional 4 inches of rain (6 inches yesterday). We have some small miner leaks in the attic from the rain today, but we found them early enough to stop any damage. Thanks for all the prayers. They really worked for us during this storm.

This video is really dark, so you probably can't tell how terrible the storm was. We had wind at 100 miles per hour for several hours during the night. We had tropical storm conditions before and after that. In total the storm lasted about 12 hours. It was defintely a scary experience I wouldn't recommend if you can avoid it.

Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

Luckily Gustav stayed away from us, so we were able to enjoy our labor day at Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. We enjoyed the flowers and a hike before heading to the playground for a picnic.
